About Scioto Downs
Situated in Columbus, Ohio, Scioto Downs has been in operation in one guise or another since 1959 and became the state’s first racino in 2012 following the addition of its video lottery terminals. Having previously fallen under the banner of Hamilton Township, the site was appropriated by Columbus upon the addition of the VLT’s, some 2,000 of them in total.The casino section of the facility is an impressive 117,000 square feet in size and is open 24/7, 365 days per year offering the track terrific revenue which it is able to plough back into horse racing.
Simulcast racing is on offer every single day with the Eldorado Scioto Downs Racebook offering its “Watch & Wager” promotion offering bettors the chance to play the action using a number of well-informed tellers or any of its self-serve wagering terminals on site.
Despite being open every day for racing, Scioto Downs also operates as an all-round entertainment venue and hosts live outdoor music concerts with a concentration on rock and blues as well as country music.
Sport is at the heart of the facility though and along with its seasonal harness racing, the Downs has hosted such events as the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s cross country running championships.
The track sits on route 23 and is less than 10 miles from downtown Columbus, approximately 25 minutes by car to Columbus International Airport.
Big crowds can be accommodated at Scioto Downs with the grandstand holding up to 10,000 people and the clubhouse area hosting a further 2,400 in relative comfort with the record attendance being set back in 1986 at 14,357.
